Provisioning: Configuration Templates, Workflows & Firewall Configs

The Provisioning module brings recurring setup work together in one place: configuration templates with variables, multi-step workflows, firewall configs and ACL rules - managed centrally, versioned, and linked to the rest of your inventory instead of scattered across text files.

Configuration templates (sandboxed Jinja2)

Create templates with placeholders and fill them with concrete variables per deployment (hostname, IP range, site, and so on). Rendering runs in a sandboxed Jinja2 environment - reproducible, without access to the file system or dangerous functions.

Multi-step workflows

Map setup procedures as a workflow with multiple steps instead of piecing them together from memory every time - documented transparently and repeatable.

Firewall configs managed centrally

Maintain firewall configurations as their own records, version them, and link them to devices and sites - instead of managing separate text files across different systems.

ACL rules at a glance

Capture access rules (ACL) in a structured way and assign them to a firewall config - it stays clear who can access what, instead of scattered notes.

In practice

Example: setting up a new branch in two steps

An IT service provider is opening a new branch for a customer. Instead of typing every network and firewall configuration by hand, they pick the matching configuration template, enter site and IP range as variables, and let Notory render the finished config. The associated workflow walks step by step through setup and approval of the ACL rules - every new branch starts from the same, proven pattern.

Questions on Provisioning

What is the Provisioning module in Notory?

Provisioning bundles four building blocks for recurring setup work: configuration templates with variables, multi-step workflows, firewall configs and ACL rules - all managed centrally, versioned, and linked to the rest of your inventory.

How do the configuration templates work?

Templates are rendered with Jinja2 in a sandboxed environment: you create a template with placeholders and fill it with concrete variables per deployment (hostname, IP range, site, and so on) - the finished result is reproducible and generated without access to the file system or other dangerous functions.

Which plan includes Provisioning?

Provisioning is part of the Elite plan. Smaller plans cover the remaining core modules; once configuration templates, workflows and firewall/ACL management are needed, an upgrade to Elite is required.
